Fun Facts: the name Tautog is often misspelled  as Tataug, Totaug, or even Totog.  Originally an Indian name.  We fish for these. Also called Blackfish (not Black fish).

Squeteague is also an Indian name for weakfish (salt water trout)

Beavertail is the name given to the southernmost part of Jamestown.  We sometimes fish there.

Whale Rock got its name because it looked like a whale's back.  We sometimes fish here.

A party boat can take more than 6 passengers.

Bluefish

Rhode Island is often misspelled  as road or rohode.

Rhode Island Fishing Charters on the Light Tackle Boat Adventure

Enjoy light tackle charter fishing for Stripers, Flounder, or Totaug with father and son Earl and Chris Bell sailing from beautiful Jim’s Dock in Jerusalem, Rhode Island.

A guided RI sportfishing charter is one of the best  recreational vacation activities for your family when visiting the ocean state.

2008 Rhode Island fishing charters were our absolute best yet and Adventure Charters was very fortunate to have many happy clients during the season. It was our best ever in terms of number fish caught and numbers of trips we sailed on. Our new 6 passenger charter boat allowed us to focus heavily on light tackle fishing with plugs and soft plastic baits and thousands of striped bass, bluefish, and other species were caught. The new Adventure 2 vessel is very popular with both our existing customers and new clients. It has a huge cockpit area and even with 6 passengers and 2 crew no one is tripping over anyone else on board this boat. We are enjoying the 2009 fishing season.

We really appreciate the repeat business we had during the 2008 season, it helped very much to make it our best ever. We also want to thank those people who recommended us to others, that was also a big part of our 2008 season. We look forward to taking you all fishing again.

Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State, and with good reason:  there are over 400 miles of coastline.  It is also the home of Block Island, a famous destination for striper charters.  Many big bass are pulled out of the waters surrounding this island every year.  RI’s Narragansett shoreline is also good for bass and blues, and has many areas of rocky bottom that hold the hard-fighting tautog.  The South shore has many good areas holding a variety of species that our clients like to fish for.  Brenton Reef and the Newport area are also good hot spots.  If you want to read about the different types of fish, use the links on your left to explore the pages for stripers, bluefish, flounder, tautog, tuna, and sharks.  Whether you're learning to fish or an experienced fisherman we can accommodate you on a trip.

At the end of your trip we always fillet and clean your catch,  so you get some nice fresh fillets to take home and eat at the end of the day.  We can also hook you up with fresh Rhode Island lobster and quahogs at the dock--just ask about it.  The only fish we don’t clean is scup, because on those trips we can easily catch 200 fish, and it would take far too long to clean them, you wouldn't leave the boat until evening.

Dedication is important.  You can tell how good a fisherman is by how dedicated they are to the sport.  My dad and I are very avid fisherman; on our days off, we fish.  On our own trips we try out new rigs, fish new areas and old spots, and generally increase our knowledge and gain current information about where the fish are and what they will eat. This way we know where the current hot spots are.  It gives us a much better chance of finding fish for our clients.   We just love sportfishing RI!

Fishing during the 2009 season was great. We took out hundreds of people from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and other states on a lot of inshore fishing excursions and not even once did we fail to catch fish. Many happy clients stepped onto the dock at the end of the day. We also wish to thank our new customers and the many returning customers we had for 2008, as it makes it all worthwhile to hear back from those of you who had a good time with us before and expected to do it again. We are looking forward to another banner year in 2009 for Rhode Island.

We plan to keep our 25' Aces Wild 2 up in Narragansett Bay for the month of May in 2010, doing charters out of Warwick Cove.

Our new 6 passenger fishing boat Adventure 2 was a very reliable and extremely fishable vessel as anyone who fished with us in 2008 will tell you. The enormous cockpit area of 11’x17’ is larger than that of the majority of the charter vessels in RI and we had no problem with 6 people and 2 crew while drift fishing for flounder or other bottom species, or light tackle fishing for Bass and Blues.

We are still sailing out of Jim's Dock in Jerusalem, Rhode Island right across from the Galilee and Point Judith charter fleet. It is a beautiful little marina and restaurant located on the water, off the same exit as East Matunuck State Beach. The restaurant is only open from May-October. Charter a half day trip with us then have lunch at the restaurant after we return from the fishing tours.

The 2009 RI Fishing Season is in full swing.  We have had many successful Striper trips limiting out on every trip so far.  Check out the Rhode Island fishing charters calendar for detailed information about what we fish for when.
