Fun Facts: the name Tautog is often misspelled  as Tataug, Totaug, or even Totog.  Originally an Indian name.  We fish for these.

Squeteague is also an Indian name for weakfish (salt water trout)

Beavertail is the name given to the southernmost part of Jamestown.  We sometimes fish there.

Whale Rock got its name because it looked like a whale's back.  We sometimes fish here.

A party boat can take more than 6 passengers.

Rhode Island Fishing Charters on the Light Tackle Boat Adventure

Enjoy light tackle charter fishing for Stripers, Flounder, or Totaug with father and son Earl and Chris sailing from beautiful Jim’s Dock in Jerusalem, Rhode Island.

A guided RI sportfishing charter is one of the best  recreational vacation activities for your family when visiting the ocean state.

Rhode Island fishing charters experienced some of the best fishing ever in 2007 and Adventure Charters was very fortunate to have given many people the opportunity to enjoy it firsthand.  Adventure had hundreds of happy clients last year.  The 2008 Rhode Island fishing season appears to be shaping up very well; we have a bigger, roomier charter boat better suited for light tackle; it also has better seakeeping and goes faster.  We are looking forward to taking people out on fishing charters with this new vessel.   Adventure Charters would like to thank our clients in Rhode Island and around the country for choosing to charter with us, and we look forward to the chance to take you fishing again.  We really appreciate the word of mouth charter business that clients sent our way in 2007; it made a big difference to our Rhode Island season.

Rhode Island is known as the Ocean State, and with good reason:  there are over 400 miles of coastline.  It is also the home of Block Island, a famous destination for striper charters.  Many big bass are pulled out of the waters surrounding this island every year.  RI’s Narragansett shoreline is also good for bass and blues, and has many areas of rocky bottom that hold the hard-fighting tautog.  The South shore has many good areas holding a variety of species that our clients like to fish for.  Brenton Reef and the Newport area are also good hot spots.  If you want to read about the different types of fish, use the links on your left to explore the pages for stripers, bluefish, flounder, tautog, tuna, and sharks.  Whether you're learning to fish or an experienced fisherman we can accommodate you on a trip.

At the end of your trip we always fillet and clean your catch,  so you get some nice fresh fillets to take home and eat at the end of the day.  We can also hook you up with fresh Rhode Island lobster and quahogs at the dock--just ask about it.  The only fish we don’t clean is scup, because on those trips we can easily catch 200 fish, and it would take far too long to clean them, you wouldn't leave the boat until evening.

Dedication is important.  You can tell how good a fisherman is by how dedicated they are to the sport.  My dad and I are very avid fisherman; on our days off, we fish.  On our own trips we try out new rigs, fish new areas and old spots, and generally increase our knowledge and gain current information about where the fish are and what they will eat. This way we know where the current hot spots are.  It gives us a much better chance of finding fish for our clients.   We just love sportfishing RI!

May 11, 2008.
Captain Chris and Captain Earl did a 2 hour flounder trip to see if the fish were out there and caught a total of 14 fluke including 3 fish over 20".  The flounder are here!  There are plenty of school bass in Narragansett Bay, and some small numbers of larger size fish have shown up.  We will be doing a recon bass trip very soon to see what is around in the South shore area.

May 6, 2008.
Schoolie stripers are in Narragansett bay, fish up to 27" long have been taken by various fishing captains but no keeper fish as of yet.  It's still a little early for stripers, even though we had a nice stretch of warm weather.

May 1, 2008.
Captain Chris sailed on a tautog trip with 2 anglers and caught a total of 25 tautog with 5 keeper fish.  We stopped at the east gap on the way in to see if there were some flounder and caught a nice 18" fish and had some bites, so the flounder are arrivingUp to this point we have caught 149 Tautog during the spring season.

April 25, 2008.
Captain Chris sailed on a Tautog trip with 2 anglers and caught a total of 35 fish with 7 keepers in a half day of fishing.

April 24, 2008.
Captain Chris sailed today with a 6 person trip and we hammered the Tautog.  A total of 36 fish were boated of which 20 were keepers and 10 were over 7lbs including a 9.5lb fish.

Fishing last season was great.  We took out hundreds of people from Connecticut, RI , Massachusetts, and other states on a lot of fishing excursions and not even once did we fail to catch fish.  Many happy customers stepped onto the dock at the end of the day.  We also wish to thank our new customers and the many returning customers we had for 2007, as it makes it all worthwhile to hear back from those of you who had a good time with us before and expected to do it again a second, third, or fourth time.  We are looking forward to another banner year.

The new Webber's cove boat Adventure 2 is now in the water and in use for charters. We are very excited about this new boat which has a lot more cockpit room then the old one (17' long by 11' wide in the back), providing plenty of room to drift fish, allowing 6 anglers to fish from one side of the vessel with no problem.  Many of our regular customers who love to fish for flounder and Totaug especially will appreciate the room.    This boat also has a much superior ride and better sustained cruising speed than our previous vessel.

We are still sailing out of Jim's Dock, in Jerusalem, Rhode Island right across from the Galilee and Point Judith charter fleet.  It is a beautiful little marina and restaurant located on the water, off the same exit as East Matunuck State Beach.  The restaurant is only open from May-September.  Charter a half day trip with us then have lunch at the restaurant after we return from the tours.

The Season has Begun.  We are already taking out people on Tautog fishing charters  which run until May 30th.  There are plenty of great-eating Totaug to catch, and they are the toughest fighters you'll ever encounter.  Sometime in May stripers and flounder show up and we fish for them.  Eventually in July or August we will see tuna and sharks show up as well.  Time to start thinking about going on a charter boat.  Check out the Rhode Island fishing charters calendar for detailed information about when our guides will be active again.
